Host a party or fundraiser
You and your friends and family can break the poverty cycle for a girl and her family in rural Africa by giving her the gift of education. It costs only $300 to send a girl to school for a year, and to provide for all of her needs, including uniforms, books, and boarding. That means if you can convince ten people to donate just $30 each, you can put a girl on the path to success. To fund an entire girl’s high school education, it would take only 30 donations of $40.
Supporters have raised money for Camfed by running marathons, climbing mountains, and hosting screenings of our award-winning documentary at their homes. And there are now a host of internet tools to assist you in getting the word out about your fundraising efforts. Below are a few ideas about how to get started:
Host a film screening
Invite friends to your house to watch Camfed's award-winning documentary, Where the Water Meets the Sky, narrated by Morgan Freeman. This inspiring film tells the story of 23 women in a remote region of northern Zambia who are trained in filmmaking. This courageous group tells a story about a subject that no one will discuss: the plight of AIDS orphans.

Facebook Causes
By asking your Facebook network to join Camfed’s Facebook Cause, you’ll be helping to promote awareness of our work. Take it one step further by encouraging them to donate, and you will be publicly recognized for your efforts: top fundraisers will be included in Camfed’s Causes Hall of Fame. Another perk for the most successful Facebook Cause recruiter this year: you will receive a copy of Camfed’s beautiful photography book, I Have a Story to Tell.

Firstgiving
More than one million people have raised $75,000,000 for 16,000 nonprofits on Firstgiving. The site provides helpful guidelines for building your own Camfed fundraising page, as well as offering fundraising advice through webinars. Firstgiving hosts have raised money through organizing walk-a-thons, running marathons, and commemorating loved ones. And it’s easy to spread the word about your Firstgiving fundraiser by adding a Firstgiving widget to your Facebook or Myspace page.

If you become one of Firstgiving’s top fundraisers, you will be featured on their home page under the “latest news” section, noting the amount of money you have raised beside your photo. The person who raises the most money this year through Firstgiving will receive a copy of Camfed’s beautiful photography book, I Have a Story to Tell.

Change.org
When you fundraise through Change.org, you join a community of socially minded people from all over the globe. Change.org was created as a forum for people who are interested in making a difference, so it’s a natural place to promote your fundraiser for Camfed. Not only can you create your own fundraising page—you can enhance it with photos and videos of your fundraising events, and receive feedback from the Camfed community.
